I have only just read this thread and am surprised at some of the responses This is unfortunately some one's personal experience at a particular SWPA Show sometimes this sort of thing does happen and I'm glad somebody has bought light to it, how can SWPA as an association move forward and excel if it can't take constructive criticism, this is how we learn, improve & become stronger Most have got straight on the defensive, nobody disputes how hard the committee works and what they give up to provide and do their best with each and every show, i think people are intelligent enough to realise shows wouldn't run without them - But please remember shows also don't run when there not supported!! I know how stressful it can be preparing & running a show and how much pressure can be applied to each and every person, in all honesty if i went anywhere to compete and was spoken to rudely by any helper, organiser, steward or whatever i wouldn't be impressed and i doubt many of you would be!!!!!! People who ever they are should be allowed to voice their opinions and not everybody is going to agree that's life, but if it makes what we enjoy better and more fulfilling then surely it's a good thing!! Perhaps we should be looking at this thread for ways of improvement for the future, SWPA is obviously growing and getting bigger this Venue was unsuitable for the amount of competitors who attended, maybe look into hiring something bigger for the future this could be a possibility??? No more stressed attendants And maybe have horse walkways to and from rings away from traffic so cars can't be sat on by stallions, mares stray dogs or children these are only my thoughts but surely something good can come from something negative Also lastly even though i feel i don't have to justify myself i am one of these people who has bought my car to both SWPA shows i have attended at David Brooms and i bring it because i need it having to rely on lifts for my horse to attend these shows from a kind friend and there not being enough room in the lorry as it's full of horses for all my stuff (considering all the stuff you needed for 3 days stay at the Champs) my car on these occasions is a necessity, trust me with the rocketing prices of fuel and my gas guzzling 1.8i engine i don't drive it anywhere i don't need to!!! Sometimes people do things for a reason.

Must say i've never been rudely spoken to by any of the helpers-just the competitors! Sometimes it makes you wonder why we give up our days off to judge sometimes!
Bubbles, i think the committee have certainly taken on board the comments, the festival show was a great success with a fantastic atmosphere.
I think SWPA underestimated how popular some of the shows would be, and were overwhelmed by the amount of entries forward and i am sure it is something that will be discussed.
You can be assured that SWPA has its members best interests at heart, and judging by the responses above the majority of the members and competitors most of them are just relaying grateful thanks and support. Nobody is perfect and SWPA will continue to move forward and take on board any critiscm and deal with it as it deems necessary.

As a committee member can I just say to Bubbles that we would love to book a bigger venue sadly they are just not available and whilst poltimore is not ideal in size we have not found anything more suitable in the Exeter area.

In response to the above i have NEVER been spoken to rudely at ANY show ever, but obviously some people have and this is all this person was trying to put across it's been asked if people can give their opinions on SWPA and when they do some people get defensive!!!
All i have done is expressed my opinion to what i had read and while i don't doubt for one minute that the commitee takes on board what has been expressed i didn't read any positive responses to the initial thread from Lorna only about how hard everybody works, that wasn't the issue!!
Tiggy in response to your reply, i was only trying to make a positive suggestion, i have never been to this venue as it's to far from me so have no idea what it's like. Obviously if you are only looking to hold this show in Exeter you are going to be limited to what's for hire i didn't know this and didn't realise there was limitations to where shows are held, i thought as the name suggest's it covered the whole of the South West so shows could be held anywhere, now you have pointed the above out and that's not the case that's fair enough and i can understand where you are coming from.

I think it wasnt so much what Lorna said but how she said it.
Im sure most of us would agree that it came across as agressive and when faced with agression, people do become defensive especially when so much hard work has been put into an event.
