I must say we have only been once to the nps champs and wouldn't say i am dying to go again. Although they are prestigious as i am only doing for fun and not to make money i feel the swpa are more fun and there prestigue is growing slowly but surely. When people sell ponies now they say qualified PUK, Nps and also Swpa champs!!! Which i think is great ;D

Thanks Medwin for promoting Cornwall but not much feed back has come forth as you can see on the forum, so what do we do? Sadly without a good team behind you you are stumped. There is a lot of work involved in running a show and I am more than willing to help with admin processes which I can do via email - but doing it all on your own is hard work. The bulk of help is obviously on the day and before and after the show. Some people do not want to sit on committees as they do not want that level of committment; have had a bad experience; or are just not interested [usually the ones that complain telling you what you should be doing] The other side to the coin is that if no one does offer to help and you run it yourself - you can do it your own way and no one can tell you to do things differently! This does have its advantages. SWPA has a good committee; a strong team who have mutual aims for the association. We work together and get a very high level of committment from all SWPA committee members. Yes we are the public face of the association, but with a membership of nearly 750 - 800 a year it is almost a full time job administering such a large association and has to be done from one location. Why don't you think small and simple for next year. Collect a few friends that have already offered and get together and have a meeting and bounce a few ideas around. Use this forum to keep us informed and you may find more coming forward to help as you go along. Ten years ago I walked away from a committee dissatisified and began SWPA - look at it now! Just taken our first request for affiliation from Leicestershire

We are thinking 3 for next year, smalllish and simple, the last show I did the biggest class was 40 entries the smallest was 14 not bad eh. now kitty has offered I will have an extra steward possibly 2 (Charlie I bet you look fab) It is making sure we get entries as you know Medwin that is what covers the costs. Do many cornish people come and take place?

Droppy if it does not clash with swpa stuff or a show we are competing at I will come and steward for you and am sure other people off her would be happy to help once you have firm dates etc

I think the biggest problem is finding dates that wont clash with anything else and hope you get enough sponsorship (finance) to start. Good luck!!!

Droppy if it does not clash with swpa stuff or a show we are competing at I will come and steward for you and am sure other people off her would be happy to help once you have firm dates etc AND Carol and Heidi would be excellent to ask for help with clashing shows as they compete regularly [masters] Helen would help you set up a website - she is brill at that [cherrytop stud] And ask your invited judges "Will you be bringing a steward with you?" - you might pick up some help there! I will knock a schedule up for you [if you want me to!] - now organise meeting with Kitty and the others who have offered help; choose your dates and venues and I would suggest that if you are going to do outside how you share the costs with maybe other organisations that might like to have a ring at your venue on the same day e.g. Kim Richards - American Minatures; David Hodge - British Spotted/Shetlands/Minature; Ann Gibbs - SW region Connemaras; British Piebald and Skewbald Association/CHAPS regions etc etc. Then with an NPS/PUK/BSPS and unffiliated rings [unaff makes the money locally!] and add SWPA FREE qulifiers you should not fail to have a hit. There now you have an action plan! SWPA have ring rope, stakes and jumps that you can hire - just need a big vehicle to tow it. All comes in a trailer

This sounds just like the Cornwall Open we had that has unfortunately gone by the way side due to lack of help and commitment. One of the biggest problems being in Cornwall is getting judges to come down this far!!! and when they did their expenses were......., you can well imagine Medwin.

"Lack of help and committment" - yes we live in a world where giving and taking have become very seperated, and giving has gone by the board.

It is not just going down to Cornwall where they ask for megabucks - see above at the beginning of the thread
