Had bought & wrapped all presents by November, Christmas trees ( 4 of them ) up by 2 week of November. Slightly over the top i know, sat at work listeneing to Cliff Richards on the radio singing Saviours Day & Mistletoe and Wine!!!! Just as well, new horse came with the worst mud fever i've ever seen & smelt, he's now on anti-boi & anti-flam & steriod cream, spending most my time picking off scabs. Just in case my fingers fall off, i would like to wish everyone Merry Christmas & A Happy New Year. Here's to 2009, may it be a hassle free one !!!

LOL at roz!!!!!!!
Mistletoe and wine drives me insane, dont mind saviours Day though!!
I had a cob once who had the most horrendous mud fever, i was forever picking off scabs, my fingers always smelt like the plague!!!
Well here's hoping your fingers dont fall off and Merry Christmas too!

Try soaking gamgee in very warm water, apply to legs, bandage & take horse for a good walk / ride to keep the legs warm - this will soften the scabs & make easier to pick off & less painful for horse. Try either dermobion (not sure of spelling, but it's a green gel) - from the vets, or inodine gel from the chemists - inodine is anti-fungal, antibacterial & anti-viral - should kill about everything, except the legs. Good luck

Thank you for your advice, unfortunately i have tried to get some dermobion from my vets a few years ago because it's good for cuts etc but they told me it was being banned by the EU so i don't think you can get it now. Still have all my fingers but should i be concerned about my hairy palms!!!!!! Now listening to The Pogues singing "The Bells ring out for Christmas Day".

Yes Dermobion is now banned (more the pity marvellous stuff!), the next best is FUCIDERM carbomer gel, it is similar to Dermobion, is great for all sorts and can be used on horses ponies and dogs, wear gloves though using it unless you would like a moustache and a deep voice!! Failing that mix a tube of steroid cream with a good emoilient base, it is great for sweet itch as well and works out really cheap, unfortunately all this only available from your vet!
