My old Mum is 92 and has just been carted off to hospital with a chest infection. This happens fairly frequently, and all has usually been OK. I potter inand visit each evening, taking a quilt with me to work on. Trouble is, this time, the ward she is on has been closed to the outside world since Saturday due to Diarrhoea and vomiting, so me poor ole mum can't be visited. She is desperate to see me and very tearful on the phone each evening. I could do with some help here guys... this could well be her last Christmas and I can't even get in to visit her. Please help.

thats terrible!! Thoughts to the both of you
How about making a video of you and all her friends and family and send it in to her.And some home cooked xmas dinner. That would make me feel better and it may give her some extra omph! to help battle her infection because we all know that when your feeling down, you feel 100 times worst

Andrea - the fact you wrote this at midnight tells me how worried you are.
Andrea's mum is an adorable lady and the sort of mum anyone would be proud to have called their mother. I know how much Nell looks forward to the visits she receives from friends and family, and I know how much she will miss this over Christmas.
My thoughts are with her and my prayers will be for her this Christmas.
My family always drinks to "absent friends" at 2pm on Christmas Day and this year it will be done with many more people in our thoughts. It is an old tradition that was closly followed after the war, but sadly has died out these days. If anyone remembers this Christmas Day ...............................................

Quick update. I have permission to go and visit Mother on Christmas Day. I'm going to take her brother, Louis, with me. We are not allowed to take anything with us and have to be extra careful about infection etc. Thank you for all your kind thoughts. I will print them off for mother to read later and I know she will be much touched by all your kindnesses. Thank you.

Well, thanks to all your kind prayers and thoughts, Ma is doing nicely now. She seems to be clear of the chest infection and is using her oxygen very much less frequently than heretofore. I threw my toys out of the pram and insisted on seeing her on Christmas Day and also on Boxing Day but the ward remains closed at present. I have managed to keep in touch by telephone and Mother has managed to get in touch with me a couple of times, although she has been somewhat confused as to why she was inhospital in the first place. The good news is that the ward is now opening for visitors from tomorrow, so I;ll be able to spend a good long time with her and hopefully, they will consider transferring her to Fordingbridge which is our little cottage hospital locally where she has been happy and comfortable on past occasions. Thank you all for your prayers and kind thoughts. YOu have all been such a comfort especially to me. I don't give in easily, but I really reached rock bottom when I asked for your help and true to form, you all gave it unstintingly. Many thanks.
