This maybe an utterly stupid question but what is the difference between riding horses and hacks?
Am i right in thinking that Hacks are lighter in the bone, dont have such a deep girth and less behind the saddle. Had a look in H&H over the HOYS/Olympia period and to me, there wasn't an obvious difference between the two

riding horses are more substantial than hacks not only in bone but in body type too. Hacks should be very light on the feet with exceptional movement whereas the riding horse should be more workmanlike but still retain the elegance if that makes sense?
Google some pics of Broadstone Doulton-he's a perfect example of a riding horse and google pics of Take Silk-again a perfect example of a hack-both completely different types.
Hacks should not be overgrown show ponies and riding horses shoud not be overgrown hacks!!
