The judge or judges will not be known until the class is announced on the Friday evening. It was felt this would add to the evening. I am just as excited as anyone to know who Richard and Medwin will select. I bet the judge(s) will be as pleased to be asked as the entrants are with a chance to win the cash prizes.

What if we've entered and when judges are announced there is a connection?? Surely people would want to know before spending money on entries and diesel etc.

It will not happen, the competitors are known beforehand and we had all thought about that potential problem. The final selection of the judge(s) will be taken by Richard and Medwin who have prior knowledge of entrants. Regards

And what if you've been judged by them before and you know they dont like your pony! We have a society in our area who practised this way of judging and the entries were very poor. I'm not trying to sound negative as I think it's great and hope to enter but just a little concerned.

It is the same way we have run the Kitt-Kraiburg and The Supreme Ridden for 13 years now. In all that time we have only ever had one competitor walk out of the ring and that was [or so they said] because their exhibit was being naughty! We also do not get all the top professionals taking the risk of not winning, so it creates a very "open" competition, aimed at the competitors we have always wanted to support.
It also stops competitors trying to "influence" judges before the event [which happens!] and allows a judge to walk into the ring and make a fair assessment. [or so they tell me]
In a situation where a judge/competitor involvement is discovered/pointed out we will ask a second judge to place the affected exhibit. That has never happend in this type of prestigious class, but has cropped up at our other shows where the judge has been announced prior to the event and the competitor has not been aware of an involvement between the judge and themselves.

We could always give the judges extreme magnification glasses to make your shetties look like horses, afterall arn't they supposed to look like a Highland in miniature?

I have a connection with Penny Hollings but would Medwin or Richard know that? Will it not stop the "top " people comming as they do like to know who is juding them and may have connections that the society are unaware of?

Surely people would want to know before spending money on entries and diesel etc. I know what you mean, there are judges that I know would not like my mare and judges who love her. Some even have colour pref's, surely it would be fair to let competitors who are parting with hard earned cash at least make an informed decision. We wanted to enter a show down here then realised it was our pony's breeder, which is difficult when they are called Mr James!

I agree how can you look at the competitors and know what connections they have, there are lots of judges i know and no one would know i know them. At least with the Kitt-kraiburg you only have to qualify for it not enter
