SWPA is developing a new area of work, mainly education and providing qualifications, particularly in the showring areas of judging and stewarding. This new division will be called SWPA Phoenix Education.
The first two qualifications planned are to be made available to learners of any age, who might be interested in applying for a national panel judging scheme or simply learning how to become an effective steward in a voluntary capacity. I am in discussion with a national awarding body to formally accredit these qualifications, but for now they will be available and certificated by SWPA.
The proposed structure is to deliver by home study distance learning so a computer with access to the Internet is essential, and I would be interested in any comments/questions people might wish to make.

Well, I have a meeting planned with Asdan who want to accredit it. If that goes well then a new branch of SWPA will be formed called SWPA Phoenix Education and the qualification will be on offer to judges in any sector [dogs, horses, guinea pigs].
An award will be about 60 hours of practical probationing alongside research and theory units, and a certificate will be about 100 hours.
I will keep you updated, but would like to be offering the qualification later in the Autumn

Will this be just judging or stewarding as well?

At the moment I have a stewarding qualification at Level 1 and Level 2 [which Asdan may upgrade to a Level 2 and Level 3] and a seperate judges qualification at Level 3 and Level 4 [which Asdan may downgrade to a 2 & 3] Those are meetings that I yet need to have.
Standards Level 1 = GCSE Grades D-G; Level 2 = GCSE Grades A*-C Level 3 = AS level Level 4 = A level
I do not wish to place a detailed description of the structure in a public domain at this stage, but if anyone wants more information then feel free to email me direct.

We are holding a training day on 25 October and the venue will possibly be Taunton area to be central and accommodate where everyone lives.
This first initial training will be for students, assessors, and mentors - in fact anyone who is interested in the qualification. This meeting will benchmark how the qualification will be delivered and Asdan will be on hand to deliver the training and set the format for the day.
Anyone interested please email me with your full details including age. MedwinatSWPA@aol.com
PS Stewards can be from 14 years of age, but judges need to be 16.
