My poor Chasey has been ill, had the vet out last Friday week with what i thought could be colic (although wasn't really showing any signs except extremly hot - white foam hot!!!!!!!) It started on the Thursday 4 days after Champs with this really bad sweating originally thought something had upset him in the field and he had been hooning around like a nause and got himself into a pickle, dried him off all seemed well turned him back out watched for 30 mins all good, checked him again next morning all fine nothing abnormal, had a phone call at 2 the same day saying he was sweating again, bombed down to stables (only live 10 mins away) to find him in same sort of state as day before just not quite as bad, sod it i'm calling Bushy out!!!
Vet turned up 20 mins later listened to his gut etc, took temp which was normal, then sedated him and did an internal where we discovered his splein had come away from the wall and was pushing against his gut which was causing pain hence the sweating, vet gave him a strong pain killer and advised i put his muzzle back on although he is in a field with virtually nothing in to moniter grass intake and gradually introduce grazing again because of the gut, now just over a week later he is out with no muzzle on at all now and has had no more attacks since, vet said to keep him out walking about as that would help splein back into place, the pain was spasmatic hence reason why one min he's fine next he's not, i have been going down 3 times a day to check him.
After coming home from Champs i muzzled him to control grass intake on his 1st and 2nd nights and took off during days as he obviously hadn't had grass for 4 days to be sure he wouldn't colic or anything like that. I am very OTT with him and don't take chances, vet said i did everything by text book and it was possibly caused by maybe a blow to the side, like a kick from one of the other horses.
While i was sat there waiting for the vet with my horse looking very sorry for himself and me feeling physically sick with worry, hundreds of things whorl round your head, what is this??, has he picked up a virus from Brooms?? has something upset him in the field?? is it really bad colic?? your looking for answers as to why this has happened, and i always seem to fear the worse.
All seems well at the moment so we shall see, just trying to get things back to normal for him.
