on behalf of a friend - just wandering if anybody has herd this happen to horses they no or to your horses and what you think it could be ?? her horse got cuts on its legs from having boots on and when the scap fell off and the cut healed it turned out that there is now a lump in the same place as the cut was, it looks like a splint but i thought they could only get them at the sides (well thats what i herd) any info grateful x

if its hard swelling it could be boney swelling... when a crack or break happens to the bone, bone forms and hardens in the crack/break but sometimes too much is produced and theres no where for it but onto of the bone and forms a lump small or big. doesnt hurt or anothing, and horse can live very happily with it, can be chipped away but talk to vet about what can be done, most likely to be done if its affecting horses movement in that leg.
if its soft swelling could be a cist just a general lump, which doesnt hurt and maybe grow in size but doesnt affect movement or anything, can be removed easy
best bet is for your friend to get the vet out just to have a look and to work out what it is and then he can explain any thing that should be done or not.
