it amazes me, what people use... Just thought id point out that from my previous post listing daz, curtain whiteners etc.. I havent used these directly on the skin or feathers, only the tail.. I have tried milder products like fairy, pure soap flakes etc on the feathers and wouldnt dream of directly applying such things to my horses legs. After all I do want to keep the feathers not burn them and her skin off.. That would just be pure stupidity and cruelty on my part.. Just thought id clear that up as the previous post wasnt clear at all.

Blue food colouring - 5/10 drops in a bucket and we humans eat it so won't harm a horse who has skin 10 times thicker than ours!

Titch as you are in catering - white in icing is actually quite grey and to make it bright and "white" you add a drop of blue to make it "whiter". Am I right? Apply the same theory to white ponies and away you go. Similarly if you add red to browns and blue to true blacks you "deepen" the colour. Look at all these expensive horse shampoos and see what colour they are and you get the same theory!

id recommend washing the tail throughly first with shampoo and rinsing very well.. Add food colouring to very hot water, hold tail in bucket up to the dock for 5mins or so. Rinse out well with shampoo.
Also another tip from a friend was if you have stubborns stain is to, get clear coloured shampoo.. add 2 drops to the shampoo mix it up in the hand and scrub away with nail brush!

the best thing i have used is "red rum" purple shampoo for greys.its very thick and you only need a little. i always use loose chalk powder rubbed into the legs before i go into the ring as well.i have never heard of blue food dye, may give that a go!!
