Surely it depends upon what class you were to be in?
In a P/B class however I have always been told that you should plait.

Would you then stick plaits on a HOGGED show Cob?

I am with you there Laura - the Welsh out cross is one of the most versatile horse or pony. Many eventers use the native pony bloodlines for sturdiness, stamina and their ability to cover all terrains with the speed of the thoroughbred.
Whatever your part bred is you should turn them out according to the type you show them as. It is just that normally most part breds are show ponies, show hunter hunter, riding horses, hacks all of which are shown plaited. If you have a WPB cross that you show in traditional cob classes then show in them hogged in the PB class, and the same goes for the traditional coloured cob - let the long mane flow freely!

I would normally plait unless the Show Schedule stated otherwise. We used to show at 'Heathfield Show' in West Sussex; they ran a Part-Bred M&M class every year and it always stated in the schedule "Ponies in this class must be shown in their natural state, no plaiting" I've obviously never owned a cob and would turn out accordingly taking into account breed type of course.

That used to be the rule for all M&M Part Breds that was changed about 4 years ago now

I always show my horse plaited and he normally enters part bred Arab classes and coloured classes just because of the type of horse he is, Part and Anglo Arabs are plaited as a rule generally and you would be marked down for not doing so - coloured it depends i think on the type of horse you have.
