I went to the swpa championship show yesterday and entered a couple of open classes.
I was under the impression that in an open class the horse has to go in a double bridle.
I was the only person in a double bridle and every one else was in a snaffle?
Which is the correct bit to use?
P.s I entered a part bred class + a coloured!

The term "open" means "open to all". So that means you can have novices in with non-novices and shetlands in with all the other native breeds, all the different types that are part breds and all the different colours etc etc. In the same way in an open class you are not restricted to the bitting rules that novices, lead rein, first ridden and competition pony/horse etc have i.e. snaffles only. So you can wear any bit that is permitted in the show ring including snaffles. It is just tradition that says doubles for opens. Many people use pelhams in differing forms. Whatever your horse goes best in then use - just ensure it is an acceptable showing bit.
