I have always thought that novices were to be shown in a snaffle bridle, however I have been flicking through some old H&Hs and seen that novices (RH, Hunter, hacks) are shown in doubles. I am confused, I am doing the novice RH at Brigdend next month and I dont know what bridle to use as it doesnt state in schedual. Help!!

It all depends also what rules the classes are run under, P(UK), BSPS, NPS, SWPA etc are all different, check with the secretary of the show, perhaps they can help.

I used to show a novice cob and you could wear a pelham or double bridle. Does it state not to have won a total of 100 pounds or something like that. Is the class being run by the hack, con and riding horse association??? There novice rules are any bridle. Even the 4 year old hunters go in a double at county level.

Yeah its british show hack, cob and horse. I do the double and if it is snaffle I can just use the bridoon.

Most pro's use doubles on their novices, which i think is wrong especially for a 4 year old. But then you can use any 'suitable bridle' in p(uk) confined novice m&m classes

not sure if this is a bit late but doubles are fine under bsha rules for cobs/riding horses and hacks. However you can use a snaffle but most use a double/pelham. Hope that helps x

we used to use a rugby pelham. looks like you have a double on but its only a single mouthpiece. keeps horses head looking as nice as those in a double but milder in the mouth

GK goes fine in a proper bridoon and wheymouth I just wanted to know as in SWPA, NPS and other societies a snaffle must be used.

Please could someone let me know whether it is acceptable to use a Happy Mouth Wilkie Style straight bar snaffle in NPS Picton qualifiers. I've never used a wilkie style bit before and have heard that some associations do not class these as suitable snaffles?
Thanks
