It is under discussion at the moment with the nps panel. Althoough it is at the moment okay to use the wilkie bit in novice classes some judges don't like them. I asked in my novice worker at Three counties and then you can see the reaction of the judge. I would say about 40percent of people used them in my novice classes i have been in.

As you know we don't accept them and the reason is by having fixed point connection points for the reins and cheek pieces it becomes a bit that has an action on the poll when you pull the reins. [gag ] It is not therefore a snaffle action which is purely a nutcracker action within the mouth. I think you will find soon that most society's will say it is not a snaffle bit, allowing it to be used in open classes only.

Thanks Medwin and everyone else.
It was a little bit of a last minute decision buying one and I thought as it was a happy mouth it would be ok!
Oops. oh well he might not like it anyway and doesn't really need a strong bit as he's got a soft mouth, so I might go back to my straight bar snaffle.
Thanks for the advice though
