HELPPP !!!!
I'm stuck!
I am currently riding a 15.2 cob for a friend of mine. (as seen in showing forum under ridden cob) I personally think hes lovely but then who doesn't think their own horses aren't the best anyway.
I would like to have a crack at county shows this year with him. However we were in my pony clubs in-hand show on Sunday and was placed 3rd out of 4 in the cob class.
Later in the day i asked the judge if he minded telling me what made him place me there and his reply was that his conformation wasn't as good as the horses that headed the line up.
I was going to show him on a day ticket at Bridgend county show in the ridden cobs but know i'm wandering if im throwing my money into the ring.....money i cant really afford might i add!
...... He does however has the nicest 'pop' in him and can really jump which made me think 'aha...working cob!'
Theres a working cob class at 2'9'' max in Swansea at the end of May which again i need to enter on a day ticket.
Should i enter him for it?
Now before you lot start answering theres a few things to bear in mind.
1. I have NEVER done a woking hunter 2. I ve only jumped said horse twice 3. also said horses 1st show
so what do you think, say what you mean as i have broad shoulders

Try Bridgend County. Got schedule if you want to see it, oh and Lower Chapel do working cob. What about Swansea pc at weekend? ?

ok. I want to have a crack at Lower Chaple, problem again is transport and I cant do Swansea pc on Sunday because were doing Pembrey HT.
Trying to persuade Jill to let me take him to Banwen on Sat thought but she cant spend whole weekend out with horses. Could probably take Bobby if i could find transport though.
Typical as this weekend the other half is working so im allowed out to play!!!

Going back to the judges comments - do you think he was being honest in his assessment of the conformation or was he saying that rather than saying "he was just not my type". Personally I find some ridden animals do not make good inhand exhibits as they muscle up in a different way. Few make good exhibits in both sections - do you need to stick to the ridden classes? I had a section B that had the worst conformation but with a rider on top his movement and performance shone through to take him to the top. ;D Don't be put off by one persons opinions, have a go at other shows and you will then find out how good/bad the conformation is! Keep a record of your placings and then you will find out which judges to go under and which ones to avoid. PS Banwen is a qualifier for SWPA - just written all the cards out.

is he 15hh2" Cobs at county should be 15hh1" just put the stick on him and make sure he is not overheight. Don't get disheartened about comments as not everybody has the same opinions. Good luck this year.

Woah woah woah!!!!
Swansea has a fab working cob class, very few entries but one of the nicest courses in the country. Having competed in it for the last 3 or 4 years and won it on several occasions i can assure you it is never up to height but approx 2ft 6. Looking at the picture of your cob, it is difficult to assess conformation from those pics, could we poss see one in hand? I must admit would like to see the cob with more covering-not fat but more condition through feed and correct work. Too many cobs today are shown fat-i hasten to add all of mine are fit enough to run for their lives without being too fat!!!
Please have a go at swansea-you wont be disappointed and we may even get chance to meet as i hope Lexy will be doing the class too!!!
