Finally getting the boys to a show, the last one I went to was Tedburn & District RC in 2006, of course last year was a wash out and as I normally only go to a couple anyway, we just didn't get out at all. We're going to the BSPA (British Skewbald & Piebald) show at The Grange on Sunday, just doing the in hand classes. Getting my boy ready isn't too bad, at least he is hogged and trimmed up, but the new lad is a traditional, I've never had to try to get feather and a huge tail clean before! Finishing work at 1pm on Saturday, and then I think it will be constant horse scrubbing for the rest of the day, they are pretty grubby as they live out, and the piebald is not rugged. It's going to be my husbands first go at showing too, it will be interesting to see if Echo wakes up at a show, he is a very lovely natured lad, but a tad slow, if you get my drift! I've attached some pics so you can a. come and say hello at the show! and b. laugh at the amount of work I have to do to get them presentable!

Thank you, they are tucked up in the stables now, only the second night they've had in for over two years but they're happy and settled. The feathers look clean and fluffy now, I wonder how much poo will be mashed into them by the morning!?

Ah, it was terrible! We thought they were sparkly clean until we saw the persil white of the others! And the traditional cut his leg in the trailer, only a scratch but off course on a white bit, and that instantly makes you feel like a bad owner. OH took him in colour and markings, we thought he would do okay as he is nearly symetrical and it is judged 90% on C & M, 10% judges discretion. There was about 20 in the class, and he wasn't even pulled into the line, was just one of the ones left to join on at the end - I should add we aren't pot hunters at all, but I'd be interested to know how that particular class is judged, and what we were getting wrong. Took them both in Traditional/cob in hand, 16 in that class, and again we were tailed off, so as the judge obviously didn't like the boys, we went home after that!
It is years since I've done that show, and it was very professional, I reckon most of the people there were heavily into showing, they were so polished, and as one person said to me, the horses didn't look like they'd seen the inside of a field at all over winter, whereas ours live out, and the trad isn't rugged at all. So we were completely outclassed on the day, no arguments with that! Still, the boys loaded and travelled beautifully, the trad was excellently behaved (his first show with us, and we had no idea if he had ever been to a show before) and we all came home safe and sound.
The next day trip will be taking the yearling out, she has barely left her field at this point, so we have some work to do first!

well done to get to the show and I know who was jugding those classes. Showing is a funny old game and you need a very THICK skin. But good luck with your showing in the future.

Thanks, we don't get upset about it, as it's just a bit of fun to us! We are really just happy hackers, and we had a lovely ride this evening!
If you're feeling bold you could ask the Judge if he had read the spec on judging colour and markings!!!
