Just something that I thought you should be aware of.
A friend of ours went to Broome's last weekend for the Showjumping Champs. After a very successfull day, her horse was let out of the stable during the night. In the morning she found her horse with cuts and a pulled hamstring resulting in her withdrawal from the competition.
She approached David Broome with it and he told her it has happened before.
Just to make you aware of the incident for all those coming up for the Welsh show. Although i think its a case of a bad loser wanting to climb the ranks for the next day.

My cob was 'got at' at our nat champs 3 years ago. he was unbeaten and was favourite for the inaugural running of the working cob grand prix. Needless to say he didnt jump a a bean, was very off colour and his respiratory rate was very high. Blood tests taken showed he had been given something but it was too late for us to do anything about it. I am always wary of stabling away at shows and quite often make sure my horse is hooded etc so noone can recognise him!

Its sad when people can only win by doing stupid things like this - obviously not horse lovers just want the glory or they would not do this to innocent animals

We had tack stolen up there last year, mainly headcollars and lead ropes, but we plan to have security on site to cover the yard for the weekend.

I think Mel has already spoken about this with Richard and arrangements have been made. Unfortunately, we had an issue a few years ago where comprehensive security arrangements were in place (via ourselves) at a major show and leaflets reminding competitors to be aware of their property at all times were handed out on the gates but this did not stop people leaving their lorries unlocked with many hundreds of pounds worth of tack available to the light fingered. Generators are a favourite item to go "walkies" together with the opportunistic theft of buckets, leadropes, brushes, shavings forks and collapsible wheelbarrows. Please take note of this to minimise the thief's opportunity and maximise your enjoyment of the event.

its so shocking what can happen at shows, my friend went up to SJ up north where his horse had been beaten 10 bells between 3 and 4pm... when he questioned people they said nothing.
but hes competed over in germany MENY times and someone strange was hanging round his horses stables trying to feed them, and some people (germans) approched them and they soon went on their merry way, they then waited for my friend to return and told him what went on, VERY GOOD ON THEM. tommy says its a totally different world competeing over here, people are willing to do anything to cancel out the oppersition, so he competes in europe now.

Mind I remember once someone cutting their own Dartmoors tail [very slightly so not to look too bad!] in order to get noticed by the judge!

It's nothing new though it has been going on for years. Several people sleep in the stables or have lorries right outside the doors for this reason. On some race courses you didn't used to be allowed to leave a horse unattended at any time unless you padlocked it in with top door shut.
