Mare came in from field with nasty kick. Huge heamatoma sticking out of flank. Stiff but not lame, but am worried . It is on her flank, close to the end of the bone that goes to the hip. Have cold hosed and treated with arnica cream. Anyone had experience with these, how long do they take top go down? heat seems to be subsiding but doesn't look like needs vet but I know if I get my vet they'll scan and xray and them tell me it's a heamatoma and wait for it to go! Don't fancy a £300 bill!

Guess what? ? A heamatoma!!! Couldn't scan unless area clipped, I don't think so, wanted to xray so I said " put a needle in it!!!" yep, it drained. Waiting to see if it comes up again but I'll have a huge bill to prove what it was. At least that's all it was. Wish I'd listend to myself!!

Yeh, better safe than sorry. Will be sorry when I get the bill but for now am glad she's safe! Honestly though sometimes I wish I'd trust myself! They doped her to drain it and she nearly fell over! She's such a wimp but she'll live to show another day! Don't think she'll make SWPA a Broomes but at least she didn't loose her career.
