Did you go, see the class? ? Total confusion! Other than that the show was well run and attended. Hope they run it again ( but check their judges know the rules!)

This happened to me last year at Dorchester show. Although it was not a VHS class, it was a veteran attended by many VHS members. I see they are actually holding a qualifier this year, but they have NOT divided the ages like VHS (basically pre and veteran together) so not sure how that is going to work. So proberly not worth attending that one!

They didn't split these either so don't know how they worked the qualifiers out! There were a lot of unhappy people in that class, especially one lovely Cob (allready qualified) that had won Hoys (NO, it didn't gallop either). Wondering what they'll do with at least 5 complaints that I know about. Smokey - Evei did well in the other class, 3rd in class of 17 in pb arab, not bad for a 17yr old competing in an open class full of much younger pretties, eh!

Update. I did complain in writting. Thought long and hard about it, rules are rules. I've spoken to the Vhs since and there were other complaints in writting. Will keep you updated

Don't know what breed of veterans you have, but I did complain to VHS about the fact that the breed shows (like SWAWPCS at Bicton on 22nd June) are only open to a specific breed (like Welsh only). Not really fair on others who perhaps haven't got pure bred horses, or indeed a breed society! We only have 2 qualifiers near me (Yeovil) this year - I know there are some in Devon but with fuel prices as they are, and the fact that we are encouraged not to travel our veterans across the country..... Apparently some of the native society members have felt discriminated against at shows open to any veteran, but how is that going to help at the regionals where they will be judged against non-natives? Surely the whole point of VHS classes is that we are all judged fairly on the condition and going of our horses, not their breed. If horses with blemishes can be placed I am sure any horse can regardless of what breed it is.

In the classes we've watched there have been all types, tb, hogged cobs, welsh, l/r etc. Agreed not fair about qualifiers restricted to breeds, have you checked with Vhs about this as they don't restrict to breeds, they have to have a vhs panel judge, I think you need to check by ringing Clare Frost. She's very helpfull. Why don't you approach a show in your area and ask them to hold a qualifier? I believe it costs £25, get the sponsorship for the class then they can't say no!!

Did speak to Claire a while ago and basically it is the only way some of the shows will hold qualifiers! So though on the rest of us! I did give Claire a whole list of shows in the area, many of them already hold veteran classes, so wait and see next year. Trying to get the Foddington show on board as it will attract a lot of people.

Good for you, I think if we want qualifiers we'll have to approach them ourselves.
