it is quite common, i had a vet look at my coloured mare when she was just coming up 2yr as she had similar problem, he siad it was where she had grown quick un had not a lot of muscle to support the joint properly he told me to lunge her in big circles and walk her out loads which i did and she was soon fine.

we have a filly with same problem "slipped stifle" youngsters who are undermuscled tend to be suseptable. our vet put her on a painkilling gel for 10 days and we had to turn her out 24/7. she was bad 2 times where she couldnt pull her leg back into place, its made worse by the fright they get from the odd position which makes them tense. and by the pain. both are alleviated by painkiller. our filly is now ok out 24/7 on hill field and hasn,t had problem since. she does still sometimes make clik noise. we have her on cider vinegar and oil and conditioning feed. it can be brought on again by being stabled and travelling.it is better to not do either in next year and to get some weight and muscle on . we are in somerset if you want to see filly

yes really. as travelling can bring it on what if you arrived at a show with her stifle locked? a wasted journey and a painful journey both ways for youngster. and that would delay the muscle building proccess. sorry
