ok ive done alot of showing with my horses. But we have just bought a Ex racehorse the we have trained to be a riding horse/ show hack. Hes county level stuff (well will be when he is finished) so i want to get his showing outfit right. Hes liver chestnut with dark spots on him bum ( sorry will get a photo soon if i can) i would like to know if i should put a white girth on him as he is like a big showpony. loads of people told me this is right as other showhack this colour wear white girths but i would like to be sure. help me thanks Jess xxx

Yes lots of hacks use white, however at 16hh he is over hight for a hack

He's too big for a hack, need to be under 15.3hh.

personaly i dont like white girths on dark ponies , looks like your trying to distract the eye away from a fault ?? not saying he has a fault .id go for a plain leather girth. just my opinion !!!!

plain girth white will cut him in half so go for leather .

I've seen several dark brown and chesnut show hacks with white girths and the girths "stuck out like a sore thumb", I would personally go with a brown leather girth, i'm sure the picture would look better.

I agree, white girths tend to cut the pony in half, brown leatherlooks better. Fylde make lovely ones with elastic on both ends which evens out the 'pressure'.

having watched the hack classes at RIHS white girths seem to be the trend! Not my cup of tea personally as i think its very detracting. However whatever you decide you wont be wrong, so its down to your personal choice. Looking at the colour of your horse i think brown will suit just fine and look far better!! Go for a really blingy browband rather than a white girth.
