Right, the dun thing is starting to malt and his dapples are coming through ;D(he was out all year unrugged and now he's in and working the coat is falling out!) What can i feed him to enhance the colour? I now Linseed works but i was wondering if theres a cheaper alternative. Also do I show in a white girth as with Palominos or one to match his saddle?

TRy soya oil, but, it's not as tasty as linseed. Girth- try both on but be carefull not to"cut him in half", sometimes the white girth makes them look as if they are 2 ponies joined together, safer with brown

I know some friends who add vegetable oil to their horses feeds to enchance the "shine". I have always fed Baileys Outshine and got fanastic results but an expensive option compared to oils. As for the girth issue, i would go for brown if you have a brown saddle if not try and borrow a black & white girth from someone and have a look and see which looks best.

not too worried bout shine, more concentrating on colour.
I wouldn't bout it not tastying as good. After being in for two weeks with no grass he must think hes throats been cut!!!! He eats anything.

We mix 4 parts salt to 1 part seaweed [smells just like the seaside] and give a scoop in each feed. We used to show a spotted and it really made the dark spots stand out. We also feed a dash of veg oil [from Sainsburys of course!] to add shine and weight and condition.

thats the problem as well. Were trying to knock weight off so i dont want to put him on anything that will add weight.
However where we rode yesterday and he sweated up, when i groomed him, alot of his coat came out and its revealed a real dark golden colour
