Had a spot of bother today and one of our ponies landed up in a peat ditch, and I cannot thank the Somerset Fire Brigade [Glastonbury 65 branch] enough for helping us get him out in one piece.
12 wonderful, thoughtful and considerate guys worked for hours to get him out and some waded up to their waists in muddy water, dug steps for him to get a foothold and then dragged him out with a good old RAC tow rope. Poor old Reece was in there too and had her leg pulled as she was missing an Ann Summers party, but they gave her warm clothing and an insulated blanket to warm her up, and lots of praise for what she did. Stephs had been down there for most of the day with baby Faye and spent four hours searching for him. She could hear the winny but with only his head above water he was hard to spot in the long grass and huge acreage.
Don't know what spooked or chased him into the ditch, but something did. Ponies have been there for two years and never had any trouble but .......

Well, when Reece was soaked and one of them offered her his jacket I believe there were some conditions attached.
Pony is fine today - none the worse for his ordeal although he is still a little wet and muddy. Mind I was down there first thing! Didn't even try to sort his tail out - hope the rain will do that for me. He was back to bossing his mum around this morning and had had enough of me grooming him.
Met the lady who keeps goats down there today and she said that she has also had trouble with people and dogs in her fields and one dog attacked her billy and bit all its legs, leaving it paralysed. She has also had trouble with people reporting her and she said that it is such a problem that the authorities are thinking of fining people money if the complaints are unfounded. Apparently they are wasting up to a third of the money they could be spending on actual neglect cases on bogus calls.

Well let's hope they actually do fine bogus callers and perhaps it'll make 'em think twice before trying to stir up trouble.

Well it does make people think twice about complaining at shows when they have to put money on it. People will have to get their facts correct to make a solid objection that will be unheld and enable them to get their money back.
