Has Someone Been Watching You?
Are you aware that there is a website called www.geograph.org.uk ? It invites photographers to submit photos and intends to have photographs of every inch of the country with an exact grid reference.
Why Does This Affect You?
On this website there are detailed photographs, taken without your knowledge or permission, of your horses, land, houses and cars along with their exact location. This is an invasion your privacy. Who knows who could be viewing this site and with what motive. This website is intent on publicly publishing pictures of your property and belongings in situ.
The Horse and Hound has quoted this site as a “thieves shopping list”
So Is It Like Google Earth?
No, it is not like Google Earth. Google Earth gives a low resolution, out of date, aerial view for your property. But geograph gives a recent, high definition, ground level picture and includes the date, a description of your property and exactly how to find it. It appears to be singling out rural/isolated properties and those with horses.
What Should You Do?
1. Check the website www.geograph.org.uk to see if photographs your property or your horse/stable/house are on the website. Contact the website and demand their removal.
2. The British Horse Socitey are already looking into this. Contact them and add your support to the removal of these dangerous and invasive images. Tel 0844 848 1666
3. Write to your Member of Parliament and demand that something be done about this gross invasion of your privacy.
4. Warn others about this risk to their property and animals.
5. Tell your local police/horsewatch/neighbourhood watch group.
