I need some advise from you all, i've just bought a new horse which is due to be delivered on Thursday. However i have just received the vet examination report which states that he is 11 years old and not 10 as advertised. Having spoken to the owner they have confirmed that he is in fact 11 years old. I know 11 isn't old but i was really looking for something between 8 - 10 and have turned down some nice horses because they were 11. I feeling a little uneasy about this purchase now, what you do?

11 is only a year old. If he is really what you are after, 12 months shouldn't make a difference

We are still showing 15 - 20 yrs olds competitively. 11 for natives is in their prime, even horses are not too old at eleven. I agree 12 months should not make any difference - if you enjoy riding him and you suit each other then go ahead.

Def nothing to worry about-many of the top show horses are still 12/13 yr olds and older. The HW cob class at HOYS this year the average age was prob at least 12!!
The cob i have just sold will be 11 next year but he is very low mileage and will have years left in him yet.

most top dressage horses are late teens and alot of jumping ponies are still at top level at 25 plus. Was it John Whittikers Gammon that won the derby at 21? to many judges fixate on age these days. Burtie my little cob won his last supreame at the grand age of 24!
