It is with deep regret that I have to report the passing away of one of our long-term team members, supporter and member of SWPA - Valerie Joffiffe passed away in Bridgwater hospital last Saturday following complications from the chronic arthritis she had suffered from for many years.
Valerie had been the SWPA commentator almost since we first began. For many years she attended all of our shows both indoors and outside and had built herself a first class reputation out of her communication skills amongst the show secretaries here in the South West. Always aided by either Lyn or Margaret she enjoyed watching her ponies being shown by Lyn whilst Margaret was her right hand man in the commentary box. Ill-health had meant she missed the 10th anniversary Championship show, but she had returned this year and shared the commentary with Andrea Dymott who took the job on at short notice in 2007 during Valerie's absence, and we were all so pleased to see her back in her familiar role just a few months ago.
Our thoughts are with Margaret and Lyn who are caring for her animals in very difficult circumstances at the moment, and the funeral will be on 13 Jan at Taunton crematorium. Donations should be sent to the funeral directors - Granfield and Sons - and are to be made to SPANA [Society for the Protection of Animals Abroad].
Rest in peace Valerie - there's no more pain

I disagreeociation with Valerie Joliffe was a very brief one, at this year's Championships, but she impressed me very much with her bravery. She must have been in constant and devastating pain, but her courage in the face of such adversity was an example to everyone. Rest in Peace.
