I've been on the lookout for a horse now for about 4 years on and off. I thought I'd found a lovely dales a few years ago but he turned into a rodeo horse every time you rode him so he went back to his owners. Then I part loaned a gelding on my yard for a while, then started looking after my friends daughters green 7 year old (schooling him and hacking him to give him some experience). I gave up horses for a bit. Then me and my mates moved yards and I found Fearn who I took on loan, but she became agressive to horses and people so she also went back to her owner.
I've been looking for a few weeks now but have not been successful at all - the horses are either to big or have already been snapped up
I've been offered a couple that have been unsuitable - 1 was a just broken 3 year old and the other was a 20 year old. I thought I'd found a lovely horse for full loan - he was a good size and age. He'd been off work for a year as his owner works long hours (12 hours) and doesn't had time to ride him but then a day before I was due to go and see him I got an email off his owner to say she had changed her mind about loaning him as it would be to upsetting for her.
I'm starting to give up hope that I'll ever find a loan horse, I know not many people loan their horses due to bad experiences etc but there must be someone out there.
I wish I could afford to buy but I really can't at the moment
Does anyone have any suggestions of where else I could look or what else I could do??

try the veteran horse society. they have horses from 15yrs which they loan out through the horses owners. some are in full work some are semi retired. you could find your ideal horse.

Why don't you try looking on one of the horse rescue sites like ILPH?? You may find something suitable on one of them, admitedly some of them do have problems but not all and have ended up somewhere like that thru no fault of there own!!! I reguarly check myself to see whats about as in the future i would like to get just a companion horse for my partner to play with, i think all horses deserve a second chance with a loving home and people who can look after them properly!!! So maybe give it a thought :-) Good luck!!

thats a really good idea... also have you advertised that you are looking for a loan horse in the papers, saying what you are after.
what about advertising for a share?, or even to exercise? some people who cant ride due to medical or familiy problems havnt got the time to ride so they'd much rather have someone to ride and maybe just help out every now and then.

Have done all of that but have had no success - I've either had horses offered that are unsuitable, to big, not broken in fully etc

Admittedly i have only been looking on the sites for companion geldings of about 15.2 so didn't matter if they were loony to ride cause didn't want them for that, but i have seen a few nicey's just keep scouting i suppose or do what Suneagle says and advertise, i know it's not easy and there is more cack about then good, but i don't doubt you will eventually find that dream horse!! :-)
