Here we go again - more snow. Thick & fast & settling (well it would - we haven't got rid of the last lots yet).
Got some fab piccys yesterday over the mountains to Llangadog for Smokey's 'A' level project - thought we were going to be able to get some more today, with less slow - ha ha ha!!
Not funny now - need to go & get haylage. How on earth am I going to get a trailer off the side of the mountain? Can't even get a 2WD out yet!!
Horses love it though - don't want to come in & be tucked up in bed at night. Bit scary seeing the 4 TB types playing around in it. Now for the job of finding the other 5 out on the mountain...... what fun.... not! If you don't hear from us later, we're in a snow drift in Brynaman!!

Well the forecast is right for today - the sun is shining beautifully here in Weston - but it is cold, very cold, and what little snow is left is frozen solid, so I do not feel we did the wrong thing in cancelling the show.
What happens when all this snow melts? Floods?

Well with 4"snow which is now like solid ice i can safely say both me and the ponies have had enough, They have now been stuck in for 4 days and with no sign of a thaw and more on its way we could be well into next week before they see there field again.

Definately did the right thing, I don't live far from Poltimore and the fields and roads are still terrible. I don't think I would have risked it let alone coming from further away.
Just wish the snow would go, its lovely to look at if you have nothing to do and want to get off work, but those with animals just find it so much harder.
I just hope we have a lovely summer!

Frozen yard surface this morning, which had me cacking myself, as I'm so windy on ice!! (Would be no good for "Dancing on Ice" notwithstanding the size of me...!!) Sheep yard under a foot of water which is now solid ice, so all the lambs turned out in the back of the buildings with access to shelter. Topsy (an older ewe) had had enough of the weather and stood by the fence blethering loudly and long until we grabbed hold of her and brought her into the maternity ward. She said "THank you very much and so I should think!!" and tucked into her barley like a good 'un! Ponies v. fed up, esp the BRP who thinks snow is fab, and I get the heebies when she starts playing silly b's in the snow and ice in the paddock. Oh, roll on the spring!!

We had sun most of yesterday and if you look out of my windows you cannot see a hint of snow, in fact I even went out and did some weeding. Yet the other end of town is slush and ice and Richard [RAC] had to go up on to the Mendips yesterday and it is waist deep in some places and very, very dangerous!

Well we still have thick snow but the ground underneath is quite soft so mine all went out yesterday and again today (and it's still snowing!). They've got nice warm rugs on and a big pile of hay each but they're still hoovering through the snow to get to the grass! In fact they seem a lot happier now they're out I think four days in was enough, bless them! x
