I'm taking Chance to a few shows over the summer but am in a dilema as how I should turn him out, he believed to be a tb x cob but his passport says tb x. I'm aiming for the best turned out inhand class, the 4 years and over inhand class and the any other breeds inhand class. Here are a couple of pictures (not very good) of him:

Am I right in assuming that the mane is hogged? or have you taken the photos and reversed one of them?
I do not see him as a cob, which tend to be heavier. Cobs were traditionally the mount of the doctor or farmer and they had to be weight carrying and solid, able to carry the person and his trading goods all day.
You need to consider his size and then locate a class that he will fit into. For example is he the height for a hunter, riding horse or hack? You then might want to consider what shows you plan to attend, because at local shows you could possibly do any of those classes as they may not specify a height, but at county level you would need to be specific and fit into a definate category. Look on the SWPA website [www.southwestponyassociation.co.uk] at one of our schedules and you will have a better idea of each of the above class descriptors.
Whatever he would need to be plaited and the tail pulled and squared off. In hunter, and riding horse classes you would wear a tweed jacket and shirt and tie. Hacks have navy or black jackets. Always gloves and a showing cane.
Hope this helps

I would let his mane grow over next winter, but he is mosre a riding horse, hunter than a cob which is the only class where you show with a hogged mane. He will need much more weight to remain a cob
