Went to the yard last night about 8.20pm as been working stupid hours this week, thought because of the time rather then bring Chase up to the yard i thought i would give him his dinner, check him over, pick feet out etc, outside the field, so went down to get him everything was fine did what i had to then tried to turn him back out but he didn't want to go back out and kept pawing the ground i let him go and all he kept doing was rolling, ooohhhh no i thought he's got colic!!!
I then re caught him took him up to his box and kept an eye for 10 mins to see what he would do - nothing abnormal there and he had a big poo which with colic like symptoms is good, watched for another 10 mins all seemed fine so put his muzzle on as normal as been watching the weight and took him back down where he rejoined his buddies and didn't attempt to roll or do anything out of the norm - But i phoned the vet regardless just to get an opinion. Chase had Spasmatic colic a few years ago and as i explained to the vet anything i deem to be abnormal for him i panic and probably see things that aren't there, she did say that because of the weather this year there had been quite a few cause of both colic and laminitis due to sugar level in grass even very short stuff, and it was probable that he had just pigged out and had the human thing of trapped wind which was making him uncomfortable (i know what that like ) and to keep an eye if it got worse to call her out. I finally got home at 9.50pm after starting work at 7.30am.
I went down the yard at 7.30am this morning and thankfully he is fine just desperate to have his muzzle off!!! Although i will be bringing him in this afternoon for a few hours he can have a munch on hay and go back out complete with muzzle i am going to keep an eye on him for a few days and see how things go. He is a very piggy horse when it comes to grass so i do have to limit what he has also due to the fact he will get laminitis. Luckily i think the vet was right
and he had eaten to much while his muzzle was off ;D
