I think the class is a wonderful idea, and I applaud Gwyneth & Beth (and others) for all the effort that has gone in to making these classes possible, but I do fail to see how you can possibly be sure you are going to know all the connections of all the competitors in these classes. I appreciate that there is the possibility of judges being 'got at' prior to the class if they are known, but, surely it is easier to assess the integrity of the judges than all the possible competitors in these classes (sorry, that is not a slur on any competitor). We did New Vision the first year it was run, purely to support it as a wonderful innovation (we do not normally show, and the mare could not have been considered a show horse). I purely wished to show my support to one of the organisers as he taught me to ride when I was a child. However, I could not, out of conscience, show an animal under him. There is no way that anyone could possible know that connection, as it was some 35 years ago.

There are standard rules regarding breeding/producing and training that both competitors and judges are aware of. Please do not ask anyone to be concerned by someone you knew 35 years ago - that is testing reality. If your thought processess were followed in your time span, showing would be very short of judges and competitiors. The negative comments can go on and on but the class criteria is now set unless SWPA change it and competitors will enter under the rules. If you wish to promote a class and set your rules, believe me there would be people out there, that would find sections of it to dispute but it would be your ethos along with your Sponsors that dictate class entry . If you would like input into the GwynBeth, why not become a major Sponsor next year and together with your co-sponsors negotiate any changes you perceive as problomatic but as you do not regularly compete, perhaps you would consider this a step too far.

No, don't regularly compete at showing - but spend days stewarding at SWPA (and other) shows, and running shows with SWPA qualifiers. I thought this was a discussion forum, for people to air their views - obviously I was wrong

No you are not wrong. absolutely a discussion and you aired your views to which I replied in the same spirit of discussion. My offer of Sponsorship was meant wholeheartedly for as the GwynBeth organisers have had to compromise with each other to get the class together this year, should it be run with SWPA next year and there is dissatisfaction, then the way to effect change is to join in as we have. With regard to your comments and the 35 year connection, I am sorry to disagree with you on that one, but I do. As you rightly point out it is a discussion forum and I am sure there are members of the forum who disgaree with my thoughts on this.

This subject could be debated until the cows come home! i can see peoples concerns BUT this is the way the class is being run and im afraid that we will not change it at this stage. if your concerns are greater than your want to compete then obviously this is not the class for you. But please rest assured we will have plans for what would happen in the event of a relevant connection and what effect it will have on competitiors. it has not even been confirmed that there will only be 1 judge judging this competition. can i also add no body complained last year as if i remember rightly the gwynbeth judge was not announced until the evening please correct me if im wrong.

If everything was debated this much, we wouldn't have shows. There are two choices, you enter or don't!! The people concerned have put a lot of hard work & time in to get these classes up and running and yes there MIGHT be a problem with judges etc but lets not get bogged down with "what ifs", positive thinking x.

Thank god, are you saying there will be more than one judge??? That just makes life a lot easier! Chances of two judges being connected are huge. Roll on sept! x

just read the format of the Gwenbeth Open , How will the judge know which horses are in which sections to choose the top three for phase 2?
For example, an ex racer could be shown as an ex racer, comp horse or hack/riding horse. Will competitiors be asked to wear different colour arm bands for each section or something similar?

In Phase 1 - each type (section) will enter as a class and the first round of eliminations will take place. there will be eight separate sections assessed in Phase 1 to send the top 24 to Phase 2. Hope ths helps

Absolutely right. With a horse only being allowed to enter one section, it does mean that there is more opportunity for horses to win the cash prizes. Of course, exhibitors may enter more than one horse in different classes. I am so looking forward to what should really be quite a sight.
