I had the pleasure to judge the HOYS qualifyers for Chaps last weekend and I would like to make an observation for members to think about. I have judged horses and ponies for SWPA that would have stood at the top of the line whether coloured or not - remembering that colour is not a criteria for CHAPS only the quality underlying it. If you have not thought about qualifyers, at whatever level, then maybe you should. SWPA standards are high and I am sure there is lots of advice and help from fellow SWPA members.

I was shocked when i took my boy to his HOYS qualifier sunday i thought he is going to be the skinniest Ex racehorse there ok yes he was the smallest height wise in the class but by far there were some the was much worse off than me and i got pulled in 7th which was fantastic for me in the riding horse class and i couldnt believe that Jack gave the judge a very good ride compared to some of the others ! If anyone is thinking about going higher i would say do it even for the experience its amaizing how much you can learn ive got loads of tips for my boy that i can be working on !! Jess x

Yes I agree wholeheartedly; there are many very good quality horses and ponies that have either started their career or still regularly compete with SWPA!! An extensive range of qualifiers will always attract a good standard of competition and it's something to be celebrated for a 'local' showing association!! And therefore it has given many of us the confidence to 'aim high' so 'Good Luck' to all SWPA members who are out there competing at all levels and don't be afraid to 'Have a Go'

SWPA has asked for HOYS qualifiers in the past as we feel that to have some at either the summer or Welsh shows or even the Champs would be fantistic for SWPA members. However we are never fortunate enough to get more than a "we have already allocated all our qualifiers" letter!
Any help to persuade them would be gratefully received guys!

Would be Fab to Have Some Hoys qualifiers at SWPA shows - Such a shame that the HOYS Qualifiers from Swansea Show couldnt stay in Wales instead of going up North !!

Yes we definatly need more HOYS qualifiers in the south!! SWPA should hold some (especially native qualifiers as they are even more scarce in the south west than plaited qualifiers!)
