Ok so the story is a little long winded but bear with me!!
Two weeks ago my mare (due in march) started to bag up, took advice and just kept an eye over the next few days , five days later she was running milk, vet was called she had an internal examination and was told that she wasnt about to give birth put onto antibiotics and that was that, four days later (friday evening) i found her in the field having just given birth to a beautiful minimally marked skewbald filly, unfortunately not alive mare hadnt cleansed so vet was called and mare and foal brought in to stable vet arrives yet another internal examination placenta not shifting, vet gives her a drip of oxytocin and tries again still doesnt move so leaves her an hour and tries again still not moving. So she decides to leave her overnight and says to call in the morning. Sturday morning i get a phone call from the practice owner who asks if she has cleansed - she hadnt so he said ill be there in a little while he arrives glove on, in goes the hand within 2 minutes he said some unrepeatable words, he had found another foal in there, so we had to deliver this one, a piebald filly this time. This is a very long story cut short and yes the mare was scanned three times, the last time being 44 days, i am absolutely fuming with the vets as all the scans and all the internal examinations that mare had and no one spotted it until the practice owner himself comes out. So i have a mare with a lot of milk, and having spoken to johanna at the national foaling bank today we thought we had a little colt coming up from cornwall but the lady has decided against it now so if anyone know sanyone that needs this mare please contact me
