I am putting this up now so everyone can pass the word around. As from the next show SWPA will not accept cheques ON THE DAY. It will be [glow=red,2,300] CASH ONLY [/glow]on show days. We will also make the closing date for entries earlier so we can process all pre-entry cheques BEFORE the show. This is due to the large numbers of competitors who competed at this years shows - without paying for their classes. How did this happen? Well, they stopped cheques - which is illegal and leaves us with a charge that SWPA has to pay! - or they had insufficient funds to cover the cheque - which also incurrs us with a charge from the bank. Most of us who show ponies "sail close to the wind" in terms of money and struggle to make the money go around, but I do find it particularly annoying when I am asked to judge to see competitors still competing, with new expensive ponies and yet they owe SWPA hundreds of pounds and clearly have no intention of settling their debt. We are therefore adopting a tighter control on incoming money to protect those who do pay. The only other alternative is to increase fees by 5% to cover the bad debts - which is hardly fair! Obviously anyone who owes us money is not allowed to compete at our shows, but if any show secretary wishes for advice on this matter I am happy to share my thoughts with them!

I was slightly worried that you'd lost mine but it cleared on the friday, I was starting to worry. What I'm not happy with is when shows cash the cheque 3/6 months after and I haven't realised that it hasn't gone before that! Cardigan county cashed my entry after they sent me my prize money................that really made me laugh!!!

Yes, I will own up to not cashing in cheques that come in for registrations as quickly as I should, but pre-entries get put in before the show - it is nearly always people who pay by cheque at the shows - they know they don't have the funds to pay!
Pre-entries are usually "stopped" which incidentially is illegal! I present it and then get charged up to £5 because it was stopped by the person who wrote it!

maybe a paypal account for pre-entries might be a good idea

You are not the only show to have this problem! Royal London also noticed an increase in cheques being stopped. As this is really theft in a not very convincing disguise, perhaps it's time to name and shame!!

I really like the way that 3 counties do their entries online. Might be worth a look to see if SWPA can do the same Med
