Has anyone any experience of deep digital flexor tendon trouble? I have a three year old filly (shetland) who has "done her tendon". She has been to the vet hospital and the prognosis at that time was not good. The farrier also was not too hopeful. We have box rested her for six months (bless her, what a star!). She is now less lame, and I stress the words less lame, for she is not sound but not hopping, as she was. I am quietly and cautiously hopeful, having said for the last six months, every Monday morning "I must ring the kennels". I have taken her for very short walks over the last couple of weeks and things seem to be going OK. Daren't let her off the lead in case she does a "flid" and ruins it all. I know she has no great monetary value, but she is Lin-Lin's last foal and we do love her. Any help or information would be welcome.

Get your farrier to look at putting a "step up" shoe on. Our mare slid in the field and her leg was in a dreadfull state! Hot and cold treatment (cold bandages/hosing and warm water/ bandages put on aternately) and a visit from the farrier and was back in work (gentle) after 3 months. I was there when she had her injury so treatment was started within 15 mins but get the farrier to have a look. All is not lost! Good luck. x
