No jumping in competition pony, where as the style and performance is about jumping. The competition pony is just dressage. ;D I see at the welsh show the burghley pony class is held that is something i would like to do if you have it again??

At the moment there is no age restrictions on any small breeds or large breeds novice or open ridden and if your boy is only 10 he is still eligable to do M & M first ridden for another two years. At SWPA we also have a beginners first ridden class that providing he has not competed in any ridden classes last year he could do this year and also the novice combination in the 'Star for the Future' competition. Hope this helps.

ok sorry! just thought something like that would down down well as i would have entered them.
as i entered in a competition pony class with my arab and got told off by the judge as she said "arabs aint a competition pony!" and i was younger at the time so i got quite upset about it and have never done the class again.

Sadly we have dropped the Burghley Young Event pony due to lack of entries. We have to have, not one, but two judges and entries of one and nothing at the two shows that ran it last year meant we ran them at a huge loss. We have given it four years and it has never really take off, so we have dropped it now.

Don't be put off by one judge's opinion. Remember if all us judges liked the same ponies and had the same opinions about things then there would be the same winners all the time, and that would not be good for business would it? When I judge I like a particular type of animal and if it then goes well too, it is bound to be higher up the line than an animal that does not appeal so much to me. A judge has to weigh up how an animal is put together, what it looks like and how it goes. Each judge will also prioritise in which order they assess these three factors [unless it is part of the rules/scoring for the class] and then place according to their assessment. Of course Arabs can be competition ponies - they race don't they? They compete in dressage very sucessfully, and endurance - to me they are very versatile competition animals - have a go and don't be put off by one, not very constructive, comment.

Tip for competition pony -read the schedule so you know what to do - I have stewarded this class a lot and its amazing the people who do not do all the movements and loose marks simply by not reading the schedule properly - lots of judges are not amused by that and are looking for an accurate show. |Most of our judges are lovely am surprised you had that comment. I nearly stopped showing completely after a judge made a really horrid comment about my d mare and now she is doing so well - proves its just one person's opinion.
