took my stallion to brent knoll rc show yesterday the classes were sooooo big they had like 15-20 in the in hand classes we did the in hand foreign breed class i was a little worried as he has being covering in hand all week but in a class of approx 14 in half an arena - so we were practically nose to tail- he behaved wonderfully and was placed second to an exquisite riding pony which belongs to a friend of mine. we finished that class at about 10.30 and we then hung around till about 3.45 for the ridden foreign breed class warmed up lovely in the outdoor arena went into the indoor he didnt even get round the arena twice and he was asked by the judge to leave the ring, why i hear you ask, well to be honest i saw the judge raise her eyebrows when he walked in the ring but he has a LOT of presence and just likes to let everyone know he has arrived he made no noise (well maybe he was under his breath!) but he literally decided he was a crab up one side of the arena prancing a little and then walked lovely down in front of the judge and then crabbed up the other side again and we were then asked to leave so not one to make a scene i did as i was asked. But after installing my boy back in his stable(we had a stable for the day) and leaving him to go back to sleep (my mad raving stallion-NOT!) i just couldnt stop shaking i was so angry and then having being told that as we left the arena she was shaking her head and saying he was mental OMG that was it for me i had to find the sec of the show so to cut a long story short i got my money back and the poor sec was apologising over and over but as i said it wasnt her fault. Im afraid i wasnt the only one that she had upset, by this point pretty much the whole car park was in uproar because she was just so rude she hadnt been watching peoples individual shows and had been pulling the next person out before people had even finished she wasnt even looking at the horse most of them literally trotted out of the line up and straight into their show on her instructions i believe. Well once the class that i was supposed to be in had left the ring i couldnt stop myself from going and asking her why she had asked me to leave she told me he was dangerous, but as i told her he is a working stallion and if given a couple of minutes to settle he would have been fine, however if he had upset any other horse (which he hadnt) i would have taken him out of the ring myself im not stupid. But as i spoke to her she shoved her nose in the air and just stood there shaking her head at me how arrogant is that???!! She then told me to make a complaint if i was that bothered so i informed her i already had and she could rest assure i wasnt the only one i KNOW two other people went and got their money back so wh knows how many others there were? Anyway long winded rant over im sorry just had to get it off my chest. So we are retiring from the show ring.

i did see your boy it was hard to miss he was lovely when settled but as you mentioned was a lil wound up down that back side. I have had mixed feelings about the judging I wouldnt go under her again but my reason for being at that show was to get my baby out for an outing.
I dont think you should give up though put it down as bad judging and maybe not mix covering with showing lol He was lovely and would be a shame for him not to be shown!

please dont retire because of one bad experience, unfortunatley you do get some judges like that. Maybe take him to a bigger show where the judges are more knowledgable. It just seems a shame to quit, especially if he's that quiet it must be worth getting him out to raise his profile to bring more mares to him

Gem, what a load of c..p! I personally recon that the judges sees his man bits an immediately decide he can POSSIBLY behave himslef and they MUST get rid of him .......... She is not the first to react that way! I think if you talk to other stallion owners they get excactly the same treatment, unless they ar littlis cos the thingies are not staring the judge in the face!!!!! Saying that, I think Sam would be far happier in a dressage arena or showjumping ring - perhaps get your hypnosis done and ode him! Beats all the prancing around the ring like some big girls blouse! (Although I LOVE Sam and he is VERY good looking!!!!) I am sure Sam will be happy with whatever you choose to do with him!

Hi anotherdeal1, i fully understand your decision, but if you've already entered Devon county ( I think you said you had when i saw you last) will you not go?, you may be pleasantly surprised under a decent judge,
Will we still see you out with your daughter?

That sounds very dis-hearting but can i ask who the judge was(can i ask that)?? as i wouldnt like a judge like that at any of my shows and would like to stay clear. We have plenty of stallions at our shows and they are a bit wound up to start with and maybe move around a bit in the ring but never been asked to leave the ring!! A stallion is a stallion!! as long as they are correctly bitted and the handler can controll them, i cant see a problem!! I always like to see a stallion in the ring, I walk behind them as my mare starts to flirt and looks amazing haha!! I have came to notice that judges have their own type of horse/pony that they like, We went to a show and the judge just didnt seem to like feathered heavy cobs of any kind, as she was placing them in the last places and there were some fantastic looking cobs that ive seen at other shows being placed first with no problem at all..I dont know you but it seems a real shame to retire from showing because of one judge, it sounds like you have a fantastic handsome stallion!! Dont Quit!!

On another forum they have said about naming and shaming said judges, would save secretarys having to put up with irate competitors and us competing, not wasting our hard earned money by entering under such judges. Judges are always complaining about rude competitors, it's about time some judges are told they are not god!!!!

I am very lucky to have very well liked, fair and quality judges...and as i run the showing shows i like to look after our competitors, They are the ones that spend hard earnt cash at our shows and without the competitors it wouldnt be happening.. Good Judges are very hard to find as i know, but i would like to know the ones to stay away from... I like to look after our judges but i also like to look after the competitors, having a bad judge just isnt good for us or any show. we always state that a judges decision is final and with a good judge this is correct and shouldnt be argued. We have always had very good feedback about our judges and we want to keep it that way!!
