dont let one judge put you off, it was a riding club show, not affiliated. At the same show last year in the coloured class, all the hairies got 4th as the judge "didnt know how to judge them!" do CHAPS or BSPA

I was told once by a very experienced breeder that if you have a good example of a show animal, don't go to a local show because it can be a 'heartbraking' experience!! I feel she was right especially in your case and for that reason alone, you should definitely not let it get to you and please carry on showing him! He's obviously top class and he should be 'out there' to be seen by everyone; don't lose faith because there are many more judges out there that would not penalise your stallion for a little 'over exuberance' (it is Springtime after all!!)and hope you have a fantastic season with him!

I agree with kitty !! Taking a nice horse to the smaller shows isnt always the best and boy dont i know it !!. Your stallion is beautiful !!! With it being a local show to you dont see stallions around so people automatically think danger and some of the local judges that have little information on them which also makes them very wary this will never happen at the bigger shows which your boy will do amaizing !!!!!. Like jacob said mayby do CHAPS or BSPA (Im with BSPA and they are fantastic) Dont give up !! youll get there !! Jess x

They are all speaking great truths! I am sure we all have tales of horrific judging - you have the opportunity of expressing your disapproval with your feet - don't go under them again - ever!

I have just gone back and re-read all of this thread. Gemma, many years ago at Devon County they used to put the shetland ridden in with the Connamaras and New Forest and when I phoned up and asked "why?" I was told "well, we never get any, so it seemed as good a place as any to put them" I said I would put a ridden shetland in and would they then consider giving them a class of their own the following year. Three years later I was still plugging away and that year I put in three ridden shetlands. To execute a change of rein the steward jumped out from behind a jump, waving his arms and shouted "shoo" at the three girls [Stephs, Reece and Nina]. The judge chatted to the steward all through all three of their shows, quite openly turning her back on them, and later openly stated "well, I could not judge a shetland up against a connie or New Forest!" I was soooo angry I was physically removed by hubby and the complaints came from several others around the ring. Three hours later I was walking back to the lorry and who should be walking in front of me but the judge and her friend. They were laughing and joking and I overheard her say "..... and I said to my steward whatever would we do if those cute little kids fell off their cute little ponies". I just could not stop my finger from poking her in the arm [honest it had a will of its own!] and I informed her firmly that those "cute" kids and ponies had paid the same amount of money to enter the class as the others and deserved a right to be judged fairly. The "very well known judge" kept asking me who I was, and I remember to this day saying "it does not matter who I am, but you won't forget me in a hurry by the time I have finished with you!" I followed the same advice that Ally has suggested. A few years later I had cause to work with this particular judge on a national panel dealing with passports and things, and she obviously was uncomfortable with me. One day she said "It's troubling me - where do I know you from?" I never told her, but she obviously never did forget me and the ridden Shetlands had got their own class the following year at Devon County. ;D ;D The moral of this is perserverance Gemma - we won't sort showing out by giving up! How will you prove this person wrong, unless it is by winning in the future maybe even at HOYS!

you know, ready this post, and thinking, yeah . . . .i know that the thinking can be dangerous.
WE ALL love our own horses, we all think they are the best, and showing is all about someone else basically saying "I think your horse/pony is the best too" it's going to be difficult when someone disagrees, but they are only one person!
We all hard comments which we may not like, i've had the "pikey ponies about my gypsy cobs, and stumpy legged tanks! about D's but I still love them . . . . . and thats what it's all about me and my horses

I am just worried that she may now come onto this forum and say " ahhh..........that's who she was............!", and poke me back [unlikely] ha ha.
At least she won't know the kids now they are 12 years older.
