thanks jane you really are my rock!! After reading the 'said judges' thread on another forum telling everyone that i 'marched' into the ring and basically had a go at her and if im going to have a go at a judge i shouldnt have my name on my t.shirt, im absolutely steaming why should i care about my name being on my t.shirt i wasnt in the wrong, ANYONE that knows me knows i am not a confrontational person and if something annoys me i usually just walk away i am in fact what is known affectionatly as a doormat!! But i didnt have a go i simply asked her reasoning for asking my horse to leave the ring. I am SOOOOOO cross right now it has just confirmed why i hate competing with horses. Rosella we are entered for devon, cornwall and the three counties but enough is enough i may as well go and throw my money down a drain!!

south west equestrian he was at your show last time, big piebald stallion that likes to show everyone he is a stallion!!!! Oh yes i can remember seeing him, hes gorgeous a real head turner!! I wouldnt say he was a dangerous stallion in the least, he had very look at me presence but not naughty in any way!! You would be daft to give up showing him, but its your choice and if you want to do jumping or dressage im sure he would be good at that as well..You have a lovely stallion dont lose heart. xx

thanks for that, this is my whole point though his presence does not mean he is dangerous or 'mental' as he was labelled by this judge. He is trained and competed up to advanced medium level dressage and has 146 bd points so this is what we will go back to, its quite sad really but more often than not at these shows you find that people do not understand what a working stallion is, and therefore should not be standing in the middle of a ring judging!!

I think it is completely unfair to single out a stallion for lively behaviour, unfortunately my horse Tiger at a recent SWPA acted like a nutter but was lucky that the judge understood the situation. I have often attended shows and there's been a screaming stallion or homo mare in the ring but there's never been a problem mainly because the owners have had common sense and the judge has some experience. I know it's easier said than done but put this down to experience & avoid this judge in the future but don't let her put you off showing.

If the judge in question was a panel judge then you should write to the governing body for whom she judges and make a reasoned and concise complaint. Most of the governing bodies have a procedure for dealing with complaints if they are clearly set out (by this, I mean not a "rant" ). If she was not a panel judge then may I suggest that your horse (whom I had the pleasure of photographing last year) is far too good to be shown under such a person. Stick to the affiliated shows who invite panel judges. We've all been down the same road but it really is a matter of just not entering shows that do not have good judges. Stick with it - he's a lovely horse and when I saw him was impeccably behaved. (Didn't realist he was a stallion until some time later!!)

and its not fair on him either i just feel like im letting him down Don't be silly Gemma, I am sure Sam dosen't care as long as he is with you........... I know what you mean about the money though, there are times when you HAVE to question why we carry on doing it..... and it can be the same way with dressage and jumping. As I said before I am sure Sam won't mind as long as he does SOMETHING, you have to decide what makes YOU happy. As you have already entered Devon I would definately go if I was you, if nothing else, make it your 'goodbye show'! I am sure a 'proper' judge will not mind a stallion in their class, and especially not one so well behaved!

Definatley go to the shows you've entered, i think your stallion is gorgeous, I nearly let the one comment of a judge stop me from doing RIHS qualifiers as i thought i would be wasting my money, thankfully people told me to go for it and we did just that.

I entirely agree with allyscallywag, as a panel judge, you are trained to deal with mostly all situations, a non panel judge, just does not have the knowledge, and it sounds like you were not given a chance, I have been in a situation like you, and usually a stallion will settle down after a couple of go rounds, I have never put anyone out of the ring for it, and if the animal does leave , it is usually because the owner has felt that his /her animal is just not coping and have asked to leave. I would do what Ally suggests, and write, from what I have read, I expect the judge was spooked by a big boy having some fun, and as he is covering at the moment, was a little confused, but am sure he would of settled. The one and only time I would question a stallion behaving badly and dangerously was if there were children present in the ring, but it sounds like yours was just having a small jolly. Do not be put off and go to the shows you have entered, you are hurt and upset and angry at the moment, but take time to reflect, and I am sure you will take him again. I once showed a very beautiful Dartmoor, who was so quirky, it was unbelivable, as she trotted by the judge, she lashed out and just missed the judge, at the time I was in first, well you guessed it, she was dumped to bottom and the judge told me she was dangerous, and boy was I cross at the time, but she did not do it again, and was champion many times after. Keep the faith girl and carry on!!!
