Im new to 'affiliated' showing, and what I would really, really like are some showing lessons! ring craft turnout (choosing the right outfit, getting those socks whiter than white etc) performance / individual show top tips..
Do the SWPA ever arange anything like this? Or can any of you recommend a 'showing specialist' who could spend a couple of hours giving me some pointers?
Is there anyone who could give a lecture - demo? (I'd volunteer to be a guinea pig!!)
If there is anyone else in the same boat, perhaps we could get together and organise something?

We have done lectures and demos in the past - but in the last few years people have not been interested. This year SWPA will be at the Devon Equine Event at Westpoint in Nov on the Sunday. We will do an inhand class and a Lead rein ridden [limited space] and our judge will discuss how a show is conducted and what judges are looking for in an exhibit. The classes will be judged, but it is also very much a demo. We will always come down and do a demo/lecture in the area you live in. Book a venue, collect a few fellow competitors and away we go!

What a brilliant idea, we forget that there are new people to showing, and getting it just right, is hard. If I can help at all give me a shout, always happy to help newbie showing peeps.

I was asked to do one a couple of years ago here in Cornwall. It was very well attended. I covered turnout, way of going, conformation, what the judge is looking for and held a couple of mock classes at the end. Very well attended and it was good to see the ones who came take on board what i had said and to see them putting it all into prcatice at shows later that year!
I think it could be a real money spinner if it was held under the banner of SWPA-go on Medwin, i'll help organise! Politimore central and plenty of room!

I'd really like to attend one - as a very amateur steward it would be nice to have a clue what the judge is looking for in the ring!

Good idea we would come and support that one. Would you only open that to swpa members as I know of a couple that would like to go but are not swpa members.

No we always wish to make people welcome - might have to pay a bit more through ;D ;D
I will look and see when Poltimore is free and book it then shall I? Now in the summer or do we wait until Oct/Nov time?

If we know the suport will be there we could have a whole day, Teachin (in Hand, Ridden WHP???) with stewarding training.
