I think Charlie means that people don't realise that some classes have little or no entries so they do a class in say ring one then go off to ring two thinking there will be plenty of time for them to return for a later class in ring one, and are disappointed to find that the class has already started or even finished because of lack of entries in the classes in-between. I do hope that makes sense but that is what he meant, in his own way. But I have explained to him that their mums and dads should be keeping an eye on the rings He also said he feels more important stewarding a big class so come on folks, get entering

as i hope all of you know mum makes rosettes....hint hint wink wink......at our pc show we put all 1st into 1 box, all 2nds into another etc etc. Then we put qualifiers into envelopes telling stewards what to hand out. Far less faffing about and it saves the risk of loose bags blowing across the ring

We use stacking units. Remove the drawers, leave units at show ground. The system works very well, but then we dont have as many classes. It does work exceeding well (as Mr Kiplin would say). Also stops the unused rosettes getitng crushed and keeps them dry. Can get around 45 rosettes in 1 drawer. Mind, at our pc show last weekend, Megs little citreon was pretty well loaded down - haha
Also, I spend a lot of time stewarding, sometime I have to steward classes where my daughter and friends are participating. I tell ALL of them, if they ever call me mum or by my maiden name, I will not be happy. When I call anyone into the line up its either Sir or Madam. Its just being seen to do the right thing

You dont need 1 box per a class, Say you have rosettes down to 6 place, you have 6 boxes in each ring hence only 36 boxes

Going back to the topic of judges I agree that it is a small world and judges are going to meet people they 'know' but surely it's up to the competitor not to go under that judge as they know before hand who is judging, the judge surely does'nt know all who have entered!!! Also judge's should not compete at the show, they should choose which 'hat' they have on, judge or competitor, ( Oh perfect world!!!)

How about allowing people to join as a member at the show they qualify in at a reduced rate? You'd get the membership money straight away then even if the competitors dont show at the champs....if you get what i mean

I think Med would agree that it would be just far too much admin at the show to join members there and then. Good idea though if only we had enough staff to process them.

I've heard it get's worse in the welsh classes up country as alot of the studs purchase off other studs and then become friendly and are judging each others animals. This is how they make their money having a name. Scratch my back and i'll scratch yours. We all know this happens but you do meet some brave judges. We met one the other day and she didn't care who was on the end of the lead

How about putting estimated times that classes will run on schedule so that us lowly competitors can get to our rings on time?? It was done at amateurs and all classes run on time

we live in Wales and even at local shows its hard to find a judge that no-ones heard of before because we have such a small pool of judges and its not as simple to get a judge form north wales to judge in the south etc etc because of the infra structure here. The show organisers can only do their best but the judge should be professional enough not to call people by their names in the show ring

You'd get the membership money straight away then even if the competitors dont show at the champs....if you get what i mean We actually have a rule that says "No memberships processed at shows" People tell me that they joined at a show even though we have the rule. Doing it at home ensures that we get it right. It would be a great idea, but not at 8.30 am when the queue is out the door! ;D Times on the schedules - well, yes we take your point, but are you prepared to loose some of the many classes we run, and are you happy to stand around with empty rings waiting for the next start time to occur? Once you put times in a schedule you cannot start those classes before that time and judges judge at different speeds and classes could have no entries in at all. For those people who come to the show for the whole day this can be very frustrating, standing around waiting for classes to begin.

Is it possible to amalgamate some of the similar low entry classes, such as hack and riding horse clases which in my opinion are often small. It saves on the time between each class, this is the downside of having classes for everyone, it often results in the open m&m riddens being very late in the day. We often have to go home before them as we have other ponies to tend to, as do our friends.

This is something we are working on at the moment and I think you will see some amalgamation of classes at future shows to try and up class sizes and speed up time.
